Maitre'D POS — bank compatibility

Maitre'D is a point-of-sale system for cafes, hospitality, quick service and restaurants. Quebec-built restaurant software in 20,000-plus venues, bought out of a public company for C$14.5 million.

Tyro only. Tyro is its own middleware and its own acquirer, so this one comes with the bank attached — moving bank means a new integration.

Maitre'D is the long-running restaurant POS from Posera, a Canadian business its own site dates to 1999 in Montreal (trade press puts the original launch at 1989 out of London, Ontario — the two dates have never been reconciled publicly). Posera reported it deployed in over 20,000 locations worldwide in eight languages back in 2013, and by 2019 was describing a customer base of over 15,000 hospitality businesses across its whole product set.

PayFacto bought it. The board-approved all-cash deal was announced on 26 November 2019 at C$14.5 million cash-free and debt-free, with shareholders getting C$0.12 to C$0.15 a share plus up to C$2.4 million within two years, and it closed in February 2020. PayFacto picked up Veloce POS the same month. PayFacto itself was formed in 2018 from a merger of smaller payment businesses, is headquartered in Montreal, processes for 22,000-plus merchants and is a shareholder in Interac.

The product is still actively sold and PayFacto develops it in-house, which puts it in a different category from most of the acquired-and-parked POS brands in this directory. The caveat for an Australian venue is the obvious one: the development, the compliance work and the payment integrations are built around Quebec and Canadian requirements first, so confirm the local EFTPOS certification is current before you commit.
