Medtech Evolution — practice software and bank compatibility

Medtech Evolution is practice-management software for allied health, health, primary health and medical specialists. The system behind most New Zealand general practice, and its ownership split in two in 2020 in a way that still confuses people.

Tyro only. Tyro is its own middleware and its own acquirer, so this one comes with the bank attached — moving bank means a new integration.

Medtech Global's practice management software is used by more than 80% of GP practices in New Zealand, plus specialist and allied health practices there and in Australia, the US, the UK and India. Evolution is the flagship. Founder Vino Ramayah built the company out of Auckland and ran it as executive chairman.

Then in June 2020 it was cut in half. The practice management business — Medtech Evolution included — was sold to Acclivis Group, an Australasian health tech advisory and investment firm, together with Melbourne private equity firm Advent Partners, with Acclivis managing director Geoffrey Sayer taking over as chief executive. The patient portal Manage My Health was spun out beforehand to Ramayah's own vehicle, Cereus Holdings, and stayed with him. So Medtech and Manage My Health look like one brand family and have had different owners since 2020 — worth knowing, because the portal has had its own very public problems that have nothing to do with the practice management product.

Same caution as the rest of this category: this is clinical software that claims at the terminal, not a POS. Tyro has it at Premium tier and tags it for primary health, allied health and medical specialists, which is the right read — Evolution is a GP-first system that has been pushed outward.
