Microsoft Dynamics RMS v2 is a point-of-sale system for bars and pubs and hospitality, built by Microsoft. Dead software. Microsoft stopped selling it in 2016 and support ran out in July 2021.
Tyro only. Tyro is its own middleware and its own acquirer, so this one comes with the bank attached — moving bank means a new integration.
Tyro rates it a Power Up partner.
The origin is worth knowing because it explains the product. Microsoft bought Sales Management Systems Inc. in May 2002 for its QuickSell line — QuickSell 2000 for single stores, QuickSell Commerce and QuickSell Commerce HeadQuarters for chains — and rebuilt it as Retail Management System alongside its Great Plains financials. QuickSell was already selling in 55 countries, with QuickSell 2000 starting at US$990 and the Great Plains-integrated version at US$2,285.
Then Microsoft walked away. RMS 2.0 entered extended support in March 2015. By July 2016 Microsoft had stopped selling RMS and Dynamics HQ to new customers, mainstream support ended 10 July 2016, and extended support — paid annual maintenance only — ended 13 July 2021. At least 45,000 companies were on it in 2014, which is why the installed base is still out there.
So if you are running RMS v2 today you are running unsupported software from a product line that no longer exists. The upgrade paths that got pushed were Microsoft's own Dynamics 365 Commerce, Retail Management Hero (built in 2016 specifically to take RMS's data and the same peripheral hardware), and cloud alternatives like Lightspeed. Any quote you get for RMS integration work is maintenance on a dead platform — price it that way, and treat migration as a when, not an if.
