Certified on Linkly, running on premise. Linkly reaches more acquirers than any other middleware in the market, which is why most POS start there.
The Linkly integration runs on premise.
Start with the product, because it decides everything else. Microsoft Retail Management System came out of Microsoft's acquisition of point-of-sale developer Sales Management Systems, Inc., announced on 19 May 2002, which brought in the QuickSell product line — QuickSell Commerce, QuickSell Commerce HeadQuarters and QuickSell 2000. It shipped as Microsoft Business Solutions Retail Management System 1.2 in July 2003, adding integrated debit card processing, and then as Microsoft Dynamics Retail Management System 2.0, announced at NRF in New York in January 2007 in Store Operations and Headquarters editions. Microsoft's own lifecycle pages are unambiguous about the end: mainstream support for Dynamics Retail Management System 2.0 ended on 10 July 2016, and end of support came on 13 July 2021. There are no security updates, no hotfixes and no Microsoft support of any kind for it today.
The vendor on this record is Advantage Solutions Distribution Pty Ltd, founded in 1990, managing director Richard Maurer — an Australian SMB-focused distributor that adopted Microsoft Dynamics RMS in 2007 and extended it with its own plug-ins. In 2017 it became Retail Realm's exclusive distributor of Retail Management Hero for Australia and New Zealand, effective 1 September, and converted its RMS iPOS iPad and iPhone app into RMH iPOS. Maurer's own line on the transition: "We have found RMH to be the most effective and suitable solution for replacing RMS for our customers." It provides local order processing, support and training, receipt and report localisation, and MYOB and Xero integrations, and it is a Tyro POS partner for RMH covering purchases, receipts, refunds and split payments. For context on the migration path, Microsoft's own stated successor for RMS customers was Dynamics Retail Essentials, announced jointly with Retail Realm in November 2014 — but that was built on Dynamics AX, which is itself now fully out of support. One caveat: the 2017 appointment is the most recent public confirmation of the Australia and New Zealand distributor arrangement, so check it still stands before relying on it.
