ProfitTrack POS — bank compatibility

ProfitTrack is a point-of-sale system for retail, built by Independent Solutions (previously Scanning Systems). Metcash owned it for years; now it is one of a dozen Australian POS brands sitting inside Constellation Software.

Independent Solutions was Scanning Systems (Aust) Pty Ltd until 22 September 2014 — the register has the exact date. Metcash bought Scanning Systems Australia in March 2011 to put its own POS under independent retailers in grocery, liquor, hardware, fuel and convenience, and still owned it in July 2014, when Independent Solutions signed NCR to deploy more than 100 self-checkouts and 150 POS systems and said it had over 1,100 customers. The company is Queensland-based.

It is now part of Constellation Software through Vela APX. No announcement was ever published, so the handover sits somewhere between July 2014, when NCR called it Metcash-owned, and June 2022, when a fuel-industry magazine described it as backed by Vela and Constellation. The sister companies are the real story: Vela APX also owns Advance Retail, Surefire Systems, Sympac, Tower Systems, Triquestra, Island Pacific, Intelligent Retail and Fresh Computer Systems. A very large slice of the Australian retail POS market now answers to the same Canadian parent.

The centre of gravity is fuel and convenience more than grocery, going by its own customer wall: BP, Shell, Mobil, Ampol, Caltex, United Petroleum, Metro Petroleum, Liberty Oil, Astron Energy and X Convenience alongside IGA, FoodWorks, SPAR, Friendly Grocer, Co-op Supermarkets, The Bottle-O, Cellarbrations and Thirsty Camel. Its published payment partners include Linkly, Tyro, Quest, mx51, Datamesh, Fiserv and WEX.
