Pronto-xi POS — bank compatibility

Pronto-xi POS is a point-of-sale system for general retail, gifts and homeware and retail, built by Pronto Software. Fifty years old, and it started out in 1976 as Prometheus Software Development.

Certified on Linkly and on Tyro. Worth knowing the difference: Tyro is its own acquirer, so that route means banking with Tyro. The Linkly route does not.

Pronto Software is one of the oldest software companies still standing in Australia. Founded in Sydney in 1976 as Prometheus Software Development, it launched the PRONTO enterprise tools in 1984, was sold to Sausage Software in 1999, and came back out through a management buyout in 2002 — which is when the Pronto Software name stuck. It is privately held, headquartered at Burwood East in Victoria, run by managing director Chad Gates, with around 475 staff as of early 2023 and revenue past $50 million since 2009.

Pronto Xi is the product and it is a full ERP: financials, CRM, supply chain, warehouse management, manufacturing, facilities. The POS is a module inside that, not a standalone till. So the merchant this suits is one already running or buying Pronto Xi for the back end and wanting the shopfront on the same database — not someone shopping for a cheap counter system. Negotiate it as part of the ERP deal, because that is where the leverage is.

For completeness, Retail with an integrated POS app is one module among Financials, Payroll, Distribution, CRM, Supply Chain, Asset and Facility Management, Manufacturing and analytics built on IBM Cognos. Pronto pitches it at mid-to-large organisations, and construction, food and beverage, manufacturing, mining, retail, service and wholesale distribution are the industries named.
