Rato POS — bank compatibility

Rato POS is a point-of-sale system for hospitality and retail, built by Rato. A New Zealand kiosk brand with no registered company behind it and a landscaping template still showing through the footer.

Certified on mx51, which is the engine behind several banks’ own terminal offerings rather than something a merchant buys by name.

The mx51 integration uses SCI and was last certified in September 2026, on Browser.

Start with what it is and is not. Rato sells self-service ordering kiosks, countertop and floor-standing, rather than a general POS -- restaurants, fast food, food trucks, pizza shops, takeaways. And everything on the site is New Zealand-facing: "Empowering small merchants across New Zealand", two Auckland landlines, NZ-only testimonials from Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Hamilton, Dunedin and Tauranga. Despite appearing in Australian EFTPOS integration listings there is no Australian presence on the site at all.

No legal entity could be found anywhere. The site names none, just "RATO" and a 2026 copyright. No NZBN, no company number, no ASIC or ABN match, and no New Zealand Companies Office record. No street address is published. No founders are named -- the team is described only as "a passionate group of hospitality and technology professionals". Commercially it is pitched as no upfront costs and a simple monthly rental, with pricing only in a custom proposal after a demo.

And then the site undercuts its own claims. The "Email Us" link points at info@nz7.479.myftpupload.com, which is a GoDaddy managed-WordPress temporary staging domain, meaning no mailbox was ever set up on the real domain. The footer lists outdoor lighting, irrigation, landscape architecture and lawn care: unedited demo content from a landscaping theme. Several "Book Your Demo" buttons link to a bare hash. The client logos and testimonials are duplicated down the page. The "100+ New Zealand businesses" claim is not supportable from anything published, and nor are the 4.9/5 satisfaction and 25% order-uplift figures.
