Get the order of operations right here or you will buy the wrong thing. RMS is a property management system — reservations, check-in and departure, housekeeping, channel management into Booking.com and Expedia, trust accounting, yield management — and the POS is the module that charges the bar, the kiosk or the café back to a room or a site. If you want a standalone retail till, this is not it. The company has been at it since 1983 and runs out of Keilor Park in Melbourne, with offices in Europe, North America, the Middle East and Asia. Founder Peter Buttigieg is still chief executive. It is on more than 6,000 properties across 70 countries — hotels, motels, serviced apartments, campgrounds and student accommodation — which makes it one of the larger Australian-built software businesses in this directory by a wide margin.

Ownership changed in February 2024, when Melbourne private equity firm Advent Partners made what it called a significant growth investment to fund international expansion. Advent also owns the practice management business behind Medtech.
