Roam V2 POS — bank compatibility

Roam V2 is a point-of-sale system for retail. Which is really Tower Systems in Hawthorn, Melbourne — writing software for newsagents since 1981, and owned by Constellation Software since late 2024.

Tyro only. Tyro is its own middleware and its own acquirer, so this one comes with the bank attached — moving bank means a new integration.

Certified for split bills. Tyro rates it a Premium partner — their top tier.

Tower Systems started in 1981 when Mark Fletcher wrote an accounting system for newsagents at his kitchen table. First employee in 1982, first point of sale system in 1994, a Windows version by 2000, and the acquisition of RED Software in 2000 brought jewellers and bike shops with it. Head office has been in Hawthorn since 2009. The verticals are the business model: newsagents, jewellers, bike dealers, gift and toy shops, pet shops, garden centres, firearms dealers, and fuel — the fuel work needed National Measurement Approval in 2014.

Ownership has changed and most customers would not know. Vela APX — a division of Vela Software Group and Constellation Software Inc (TSX: CSU) — acquired the business, which Tower's own site dates to November 2024 and Vela announced publicly on 21 January 2025. It was an asset purchase: Vela took the assets of Tower Systems International Pty Ltd and formed a new entity trading as Tower Systems. Constellation buys vertical-market software and holds it, so the brand and the staff tend to survive while the owner does not stay the same. Founder Mark Fletcher stayed on message at the announcement: "Our mission remains: to help local indie retailers thrive."

Roam itself is the mobile arm, launched in 2019 as Retailer Roam — a companion to the main Retailer product for selling away from the shop at markets, from trucks and at pop-ups. Note that this record duplicates the `retailer-roam` record, which carries the same product under the correct vendor and shows both Linkly and Tyro; this one is Tyro's directory spelling of it and understates the middleware. Held back from release for that reason.
