Sync is a point-of-sale system for retail, built by Brunswick Bowling Products. The bowling platform from a name that dates to 1845 — and a business its famous parent sold off in 2015.

John Brunswick built his first billiards table in a Cincinnati woodworking shop in 1845, and the J. M. Brunswick Manufacturing Company opened on 15 September that year. Brunswick has been in bowling ever since: Moses Bensinger organised the first American Bowling Congress in 1895, and the company opened the first bowling centre in Moscow in 1976. Its R&D sits in Muskegon, Michigan and its pinsetter plant in Szekesfehervar, Hungary.

Sync is the current centre platform — cloud-based scoring, POS, payments, marketing and operations in one system, with thousands of installations worldwide and more than seventeen releases since 2015. For a bowling or entertainment centre it is the whole stack rather than a till bolted onto a scoring system, which is the practical difference from the older generation of bowling software.

Ownership is the part people get wrong, because there were two separate sales. Brunswick Corporation sold its bowling centre chain — the venues themselves — to Bowlmor AMF, now Bowlero, for $270 million in September 2014. It then sold the bowling equipment and products business, the part that makes Sync, to BlueArc Capital Management of Atlanta, completing its exit in May 2015. BlueArc kept the Brunswick name and added Ebonite International in November 2019. The brand on your scoring screens is 180 years old; the company behind it is a private investment firm.
