Timely is a point-of-sale system for hair and beauty and services. A Dunedin startup that sold to a US listed company for a reported nine figures — and the booking calendar is still the product, not the till.

Tyro only. Tyro is its own middleware and its own acquirer, so this one comes with the bank attached — moving bank means a new integration.

Certified for split bills. Tyro rates it a Power Up partner.

Timely was founded in Dunedin in 2011 by Ryan Baker, Andrew Schofield and Will Berger. It is salon and clinic software first: the appointment book is the centre of it and the payment is bolted to the booking. By 2021 it had more than 50,000 service professionals on it across 90 countries, booking over 30 million appointments a year.

Then EverCommerce bought it. EverCommerce is a Denver-based service commerce group — now NASDAQ-listed — and the deal was reported in Otago at more than NZ$100 million, one of the bigger software exits to come out of the South Island. Ryan Baker later stepped back from the chief executive role. So the company behind your booking calendar is now an American roll-up with dozens of brands, not three guys in Dunedin, and that is the single most useful thing to know before you sign a multi-year agreement.

Tyro has it at Power Up tier, tagged for hair and beauty and services. Practically: if you are a salon, a barber, a clinic or a spa, this is in the right lane. If you need stock-heavy retail or hospitality order flow, it is not.
