Ultimo Software Dental — practice software and bank compatibility

Ultimo Software Dental is practice-management software for dental and health, built by Ultimo. The Australian fork of an American open-source dental system, maintained here since 2007.

Tyro only. Tyro is its own middleware and its own acquirer, so this one comes with the bank attached — moving bank means a new integration.

Certified to do HealthPoint private health claiming and cash out. Tyro rates it a Power Up partner.

Ultimo Dental Software is the Australian version of Open Dental, the US open-source dental practice management system, with the code base maintained in Australia by an in-house development team. Tyro's listing gives the trading company as Ultimo Health Technologies and dates the product to 2007, started to fill a gap in quality Australian dental software.

Feature-wise it is a complete dental PMS: appointment book with two-way SMS confirmations, restorative charting including 3D, periodontal charting, treatment planning, patient records and accounts, image and document management, lab case tracking, sterilisation tracking, staff time tracking, plus reports and letters. Windows only, English only, with multi-clinic and remote options. Installation includes onsite training and 12 months of phone and remote support from an Australian help desk.

Two claiming paths exist and they are not the same thing: HICAPS electronic claims integration built into the software, and Tyro HealthPoint plus integrated cashout, purchases and refunds through the Tyro link. Work out which one your practice actually wants before you buy a terminal. The open-source lineage is the unusual part — the underlying system has a development community far larger than any single Australian vendor, which cuts both ways on support and on how far the local build can diverge.
