XchangePoint POS — bank compatibility

XchangePoint is a point-of-sale system for hospitality and retail, built by Task Software. The integration layer underneath TASK's enterprise POS, now owned by NYSE-listed PAR Technology after a 2024 takeover.

Certified on mx51, which is the engine behind several banks’ own terminal offerings rather than something a merchant buys by name.

Certified for pay at table, phone and mail order and surcharging.

The mx51 integration uses Spice and was last certified in July 2020, on Windows.

XchangePoint comes out of TASK, the Sydney company incorporated in 2000 that built centralised POS terminal management and real-time sales reporting for large hospitality groups. The pitch was never the till screen — it was the plumbing behind it: one platform managing terminals across dozens or hundreds of sites, pushing sales data back to head office as it happens, and integrating whatever else the group runs.

TASK merged with Auckland's Plexure in 2022 to form the ASX-listed TASK Group, pairing the transaction platform with the mobile loyalty engine that drives McDonald's programs in 65 markets. Then PAR Technology bought the whole thing — announced March 2024 at about $288 million, a 103% premium, completed that July for US$131.5 million cash plus 2.16 million PAR shares. If you are on this product, your vendor is now part of a US company serving more than 70,000 venues across 110 countries.
