Xilnex Point of Sales POS — bank compatibility

Xilnex Point of Sales is a point-of-sale system for general retail and retail. Malaysia's chain-retail POS, and a Bursa-listed courier company owns a chunk of it.

Tyro only. Tyro is its own middleware and its own acquirer, so this one comes with the bank attached — moving bank means a new integration.

Xilnex was founded in Penang in 2007, co-founded by Ooi Boon Sheng, and claims to have been the first cloud subscription POS provider in Malaysia. It aims at multi-outlet chains and enterprise retail and F&B rather than single-site SMEs — its own stated competitors are Cuscapi locally and NCR regionally. It claims 30,000-plus installations, 5,000-plus businesses and US$2 billion in GMV, selling through resellers and joint ventures across Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and Singapore.

The ownership is the unusual part. Teak Capital took 30% in 2013, and in 2016 GD Express Carrier Bhd — GDex, the Bursa Malaysia-listed courier — bought that stake out. Not a financial investor: Web Bytes, the company trading as Xilnex, had co-developed GDex's own logistics technology platforms. GDex is itself part-owned by Singapore Post, which raised its holding to just over 27%. Xilnex also bought its own Cambodian reseller, Iter Plus, to create its first fully owned overseas branch.

Named customers are Malaysian — Texas Chicken, Tealive, Marrybrown, Mydin, Alpro Pharmacy, MBG Fruit Shop, Ms. Read, Hai-O — and trade coverage says Xilnex POS is used at all international airports in Malaysia. On Australia, be careful what you assume: one trade article says the company "has established offerings in Australia", but its own website names no Australian office, customer, entity or payment partner, and is built around Malaysian e-invoice compliance and ringgit pricing.
