Zedmed is practice-management software for allied health, health, primary health and medical specialists. One of the last independents left in Australian medical software, and a rarity for running on-premise or cloud as you prefer.
Tyro only. Tyro is its own middleware and its own acquirer, so this one comes with the bank attached — moving bank means a new integration.
It handles Medicare bulk billing, Medicare Easyclaim and multi-merchant. Tyro rates it a Premium partner — their top tier.
Zedmed has been in practice management software for over 45 years, which puts it among the oldest products of its kind still trading in Australia, and the team is in Melbourne. It is on around 800 practices with more than 10,000 practitioners — general practice, specialists, nurse practitioners, mental health and allied health. Data sits in ISO 27001 certified Australian data centres.
The interesting thing about it in 2026 is what has not happened: while Genie went to IFM and then Magentus, Medtech's practice management business went to Acclivis and Advent, and Best Practice and Clinic to Cloud changed hands, Zedmed has no acquisition on the public record. It also still offers on-premise as well as cloud, which almost every competitor has walked away from — that matters if your practice has bad internet or a server policy you cannot change.
Call this what it is: clinical software that claims at the terminal, not a POS. The deciding factor for a practice is the claiming — Medicare, private billing, e-prescribing, results management — and not the price of the EFTPOS machine. Tyro certifies it at Premium tier.
Health claiming at the terminal
Certified through Tyro for Medicare Easyclaim — bulk bill, Medicare Easyclaim — part paid, Medicare Easyclaim — patient paid. Tyro is its own acquirer, so claiming through the terminal means banking with Tyro.
Connected through
A POS reaches a bank through middleware. Each card below is one certified route; the banks it reaches are on the middleware page.
