A London fintech that acquires and runs its own gateway in one — enterprise volume, one contract, and a stack that is simpler to run than to leave.
About Checkout.com
Checkout.com was founded by Guillaume Pousaz in 2009 and took its current name in 2012. It is privately held, headquartered in London, and reported around 2,000 people across 19 offices at the end of 2024.
It operates as a gateway, an acquirer and a processor rather than picking one, and its customer list is weighted to enterprise — Netflix, eBay, Uber Eats and Alibaba are named publicly. Alongside payments it sells fraud detection, identity verification, card issuing and payouts.
It is an acquirer first, with a gateway of its own built on top, rather than a gateway that later added acquiring. A merchant takes both together: the checkout and the settlement come from the same party. As an acquirer it can sit behind somebody else’s gateway, but the gateway does not work the other way round — it is not a router to be pointed at a bank.
