Fat Zebra
- Company role:
- Online payment gatewayAcquirerPSP software
Australian gateway that is simultaneously a facilitator and an acquirer depending on the scheme — the clearest published example of why one label per company is inadequate.
About Fat Zebra
Fat Zebra publishes the most precise acquirer disclosure in the Australian market, and it splits by scheme. For Visa and Mastercard it is a registered payment facilitator of Checkout.com Australia Pty Ltd, a registered third-party processor of First Data Merchant Solutions Australia Pty Ltd and a registered payment facilitator of NAB. Fat Zebra are in the process of obtaining their acquiring licences for Visa and Mastercard. For American Express it is a registered payment aggregator.
For eftpos and UnionPay it is different: Fat Zebra states it is the acquirer of record for eftpos Direct transactions and for UnionPay International transactions. So a single company is a facilitator on some schemes and a principal acquirer on others — which is exactly why this directory records acquiring status as a fact with prose behind it rather than a one-word category.
It is listed first in the RBA’s card-not-present least-cost-routing table, consistent with holding its own eftpos acquiring for online debit, and is both an AusPayNet participant member and an AP+ scheme member. It has acquired Pin Payments. Head office and founding year are not verifiable from public sources and are left blank.
