NAB

Direct acquirer and the most significant wholesale sponsor among the majors — several other providers board merchants onto NAB.

About NAB

NAB traces its heritage to the National Bank of Australasia in 1858; the present entity was incorporated in 1981 and took the National Australia Bank name after the 1982 merger. It holds A$983.84 billion in total residents’ assets on APRA’s July 2026 statistics.

It acquires directly under its own merchant agreement, selling own-branded NAB EFTPOS terminals with 700+ point-of-sale integrations and same-day settlement, plus NAB Easy Tap for softPOS on Android. What sets it apart is the wholesale side: NAB is independently named as the acquirer in other providers’ own acquirer disclosures — Fat Zebra discloses it is a registered payment facilitator of NAB, and Braintree’s Australian agreement states that on the NAB route the merchant has a direct agreement with NAB.

NAB is also the most active major in account-to-account payments, announcing the acquisition of Pay-by-Bank and orchestration platform Banked on 14 May 2026 to extend A2A checkout, reconciliation and settlement to more of its merchants.
