PayPal Checkout is the yellow button, and for a large share of Australian shoppers it is the reason a sale completes rather than a detail of how it does. Advanced Checkout adds hosted card fields, so cards are taken in the same flow rather than through a second provider.
It is the easiest thing on this list to put live — the ecommerce integrations do most of the work and the REST Orders API covers the rest — and the least flexible commercially. PayPal processes the transaction; the gateway and the acquiring are the same decision.
For many small merchants that is the right trade, and the honest comparison is not against a bank gateway but against having no card acceptance online at all. For a merchant with volume, it is usually a second rail alongside a proper gateway rather than the only one.
