Stripe

Holds Australian Visa and Mastercard acquiring in its own name — one of the few non-bank principal acquirers, confirmed by its own acquirer disclosure.

About Stripe

Stripe’s Australian acquirer disclosure states plainly that the payment method acquirer for Visa and Mastercard is Stripe Payments Australia Pty Ltd, ACN 160 180 343, with no third party named. That is a direct principal-membership disclosure and the strongest available evidence of acquiring status.

Notably, Stripe is not an ADI, not an AusPayNet participant member and not an AP+ scheme member — consistent with holding Visa and Mastercard acquiring without direct domestic eftpos membership. It is a clean demonstration that ADI status is not required to acquire in Australia, and that AusPayNet and AP+ membership are different things from scheme principal membership.

Its Australian head office is not published and is left blank here rather than guessed. Stripe is named in both the RBA’s card-present and card-not-present least-cost-routing tables.
