Ingenico
- Company role:
- Terminal manufacturer
- Head office:
- Suresnes, France
France’s terminal incumbent — 45 years of payment hardware, carved out of Worldline in 2022 and recapitalised under PIMCO-led investors in 2026.
About Ingenico
Ingenico was founded outside Paris in 1980 by Jean-Jacques Poutrel and Michel Malhouitre, and spent most of the next four decades as one of the two companies — Verifone was the other — that between them decided what a payment terminal looked like. It is still headquartered at Suresnes, on the western edge of Paris.
Its corporate history since 2020 has been unusually eventful for a hardware business. Worldline agreed to buy Ingenico for €7.8 billion in February 2020, then sold the terminals arm on to funds managed by Apollo Global Management for €2.3 billion, completing on 3 October 2022. In August 2026 a PIMCO-led group of investors put €150 million of new capital in and converted debt to equity, taking control and ending Apollo’s holding.
None of that changes what a merchant sees. Ingenico does not acquire and does not sell to Australian merchants directly: its terminals reach businesses through banks, acquirers and payment facilitators, who brand and price them as their own. NAB is unusual in naming the hardware in its own material — its integrated terminal is an Ingenico Move/5000.
