The MT330 is a PIN pad and nothing else. It has no POS application of its own: it pairs with a smartphone, a tablet or a fixed counter system, and the merchant’s own app or Quest’s free airPay app does the selling. That keeps it to 90 x 61 x 22.5mm and 140g.

It takes chip, contactless and magstripe — the magstripe reader is there for gift and stored-value cards, which is often the only reason a modern terminal still has one. Encryption runs point-to-point from the PIN pad to the acquirer, so card data never touches the phone.

The display is a 128 x 96 colour OLED with 13 tactile keys, on a 32-bit RISC processor with 8MB of flash and 8MB of SDRAM. The 500mAh battery is replaceable and charges over USB or an optional dock. Receipts go out by SMS or email, or to a printer attached to the host device.

What it costs

The rate you pay is negotiated on your volume and card mix, not set by the terminal — two businesses on the same MT330 can be paying very different money. Find out what yours should be.
