The RX9000 is not a handheld. It is an 8-inch Android tablet built to sit on a stand facing the customer at a supermarket lane or a self-checkout, where the work is signature capture, loyalty prompts, warranty and contract forms, and a payment at the end of them.
Power, USB, serial and Ethernet all run through a single cable Ingenico calls IDMI, back to a hub. That is what makes it installable in a lane without a nest of leads behind the counter. It supports palm rejection so a hand resting on the glass does not ruin a signature, and raises an alert if the cable is pulled.
It is 202 x 165 x 28mm and 529g, with a 1280 x 800 display, an 8MP front camera and PCI PTS v6. Operating temperature is a narrow 0 to 40C, which marks it plainly as an indoor device.
What it costs
The rate you pay is negotiated on your volume and card mix, not set by the terminal — two businesses on the same Axium RX9000 can be paying very different money. Find out what yours should be.
