These are sold together as Self Modular and they are two halves of one installation. The Self/7000 is the card reader and the brain — a 600MHz processor, 512MB of flash and RAM, contactless, chip and magstripe with RGB LEDs at the card mouth for anti-skimming. The Self/8000 is the PIN module: a 2.5-inch colour display and 16 metal keys with RGB illumination, powered through the Self/7000 rather than separately.

The Self/8000 lights its keypad when it detects somebody standing there and dims by luminosity sensor. That is the kind of detail that only matters on an unlit forecourt at two in the morning, and then matters a great deal.

Both are IK10. The Self/7000 is IP44 and 825g; the Self/8000 is IP65 and 963g. Both are PCI PTS v6. The Self/8000 is compliant with EVA EPS v2 and Ingenico positions it as the upgrade path from an installed iUP250.

What it costs

The rate you pay is negotiated on your volume and card mix, not set by the terminal — two businesses on the same Self/7000 and Self/8000 can be paying very different money. Find out what yours should be.
